You may have asked yourself: how can I test out my shiny new camera?
Or perhaps while doing some spring cleaning, you rediscovered a nice black-and-white landscape portrait you shot while exploring the trails at Huntington Beach State Park.
Or maybe you’re trying to get your foot in the door of a career in the photographic arts and build up your portfolio.
Whatever the case, if you’ve got the itch to show of your skills behind the lens, we’ve got the forum.
That’s because Surge is hosting its inaugural summer photo contest, which will run all summer long.
Thematically, the rules are pretty simple: we want you to submit photos that best capture the feeling of what the Myrtle Beach area means to you, whether it is the natural beauty of the marshes or sunrise on the beach, something iconic such as the former Myrtle Beach Pavilion, or perhaps the homeless encampments hidden in the woods not far from high-rise ocean-front luxury hotels.
The caveats: The photos must have been shot in Horry or Georgetown counties and the contest is limited to amateur photographers.
Entries in the contest will be uploaded to our Web site, www.weeklysurge.com, and readers will vote on their favorite. The top 10 photos garnering the most votes will then be judged by Weekly Surge staff who will select an overall winner, which will be featured on the cover of the Sept. 10 issue of Weekly Surge, and the photographer and his/her work will also be profiled inside that edition.
